The Distinguished Service Cross or DSC was originally known as the Conspicuous Service Cross (renamed in 1914) and was awarded across all ranks of the Royal Navy

presumably this was due to the cost of making individual bars with so many acts of gallantry being performed

Distinguished Conduct Medal EIIR Campaign_GSM 62 to 2007 The Distinguished Service Cross orIn 1993 the DCM was discontinued and replaced by the CGC. Many of the awards from this period have their citations classified as they were made for acts in Northern Ireland or to Special Forces, the names of all recipients have however been published in the London Gazette. No bars have been awarded to the EIIR issue, although bars were announced by the Queen these were second awards to holders of a GVI DCM.
