I mildly prefer the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet because of its marginally better sense of verve but I underscore that the difference is slight and it’s obviously an open question as to how the two wines will compare over time – in sum

this has acquired some maturity and balance

It improved with aeration and after a couple of hours was more open and floral

The palate is very well-balanced with supple ripe tannins and fine acidity

The 2018 Pinot Noir Jessie Vineyard was made with 46% whole clusters and aged 17 months in 51% new French oak

Billaud Simon, Chablis Clos Vintage:2012 I mildly prefer the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet(from a . 44 ha parcel of vines planted in 1966). This possesses what is arguably the most aromatically complex nose in the range with its perfumed and ripe scents of oyster shell, sea breeze, green apple, lemon rind and white flowers. The wonderfully refined large scaled flavors are almost pungently mineral and this stony character continues onto the markedly dry, balanced and hugely finish that exudes hints of iodine.
